- ATV speed limits on town roads – discussion
Complaints have been received about excessive ATV/UTV speeds on town roads. Bayfield
County does have a maximum speed of 40mph. If the road is posted, they must adhere
to that speed. J. Eid emailed Mark Little, DNR recreational warden in Madison. She
asked about the correct way to enforce the new speed limit. The current ordinance
could be amended and signs would need to be updated. J. Eid spoke with John Carlson, the
town’s attorney. He can amend it, but needs to know what the board wants done. The
recommendation is to drop the speed to 25mph on all town roads. The county and DNR can
enforce the speed. J. Eid will talk with J. Carlson about changing the ordinance to current
specifications without the speed. The speed will be finalized next month.
