COMMITTEE REPORTS

Fire Department / Ambulance
Here is the breakdown for ambulance activity for July:
Bell – 2
Clover – 1
Port Wing – 2
Orienta – 0
We had 2 fire scene standbys, 1 lift assist, and 2 transports.
Planning Commission:

Roads
We could use some rain for grading. I would say the long term effectiveness of the calcium chloride that we applied earlier is OK for the shaded areas, but we should consider using liquid in the full sun areas. Otherwise we have been cleaning the ditches on mountain road and installing culverts. We had a rather significant wind storm that devastated many trees on both points, and some minor washouts on mountain and stage road. We will be working with Jan Victorson and the WEM to see if we can be partially reimbursed for our damages. We were fortunate, as our neighbors to the east were hit very hard with the straight line winds.

Harbor Commission
The Commission is still working on shop area grade problems, we are working on getting the necessary permits.
The Commission is working on the harbor map project, good progress is being made.
The Commission has put together an improvements list and is working on a ten year plan to implement them.
The Commission has several small repairs and upgrades we would like done and we are looking into making a list of some local craft-persons we could hire for that purpose.

Parks and Lands
We voted to go ahead with 400$ of invasive species control on the beach.
We reviewed the Transient vendor ordinance and recommend board to pass it.We discussed pavilion repairs.
Campground host experiment is going well.
Talked about gravel needed in front of Swenson Pavilion.
We talked about about the need of another town position to maintain buildings.
Andrew

Museum
The board has been busy in both the Archives and the Green Shed building itself. In the Archives, we are accessioning photos and other information to ready for the future exhibits: the Post Office, the Fish Fry and the Cornucopia Club. The Harbor Commission met with some museum board members for a close look at structural challenges to the Green Shed. Minor maintenance is on the agenda in the future for some repairs. Terri has also been on many ZOOM meetings with the Bayfield County Historical Society where we all share our concerns and project goals during these unusual times.

Community Center
Work continues on the inside of the building. A motion detector light has been installed on the basement steps. This will solve the problem of people not turning off the light.
The elevator light is out and I would request we change the whole unit to an LED system. This would save some money because LED is more efficient than the current system. That particular light is on 24/7. We have been advised to change all florescent lights to LED in the future. As bulbs burn out, units, could be changed.
Work has started on the gutter problem on the south side of the CC building.
I concur with the request of the Harbor Commission for a “handyman” position or list of volunteers for some of the minor jobs in need of completion on Town property or buildings. Current employees have their hands full with expectations.
Am requesting Board or community residents convey to me “wishes” for the Community Center building.
Reminder again that groups wishing to use the center sign up on the calendar in the big room so as to stop over-booking conflicts or submit online a request and check the calendar for updates and reservations.
New refrigeration for the CC is on hold right now because of no need this year and research on the best unit or units to get. I request that moneys in the budget for this year be carried over into next year as a credit and additional funding be added in next years budget for our needs. Judith Kerr

Website
I made some progress adding new pages for the Green Shed Museum and Siskiwit Lake Campground, as well as updating photos and information for the Recycle Center and harbor pages. The pages for the airport and downloadable forms are in progress. I also changed the colors. Comments on the site and committee proceedings can now be emailed to tobadmin1@cornywi.org.

Library
Library Board has closed the Library until further notice.

Recycling Center
It has been a busy month at the center.
We shipped cardboard last week and are expecting a slight increase in income from it, also we were able to load the truck in record time using Siskowit Galloways log truck. This should help with the expense of loading as it will not work to use the town loader to do the job.
The metal bin has been emptied twice this month. It costs us a small amount each time that eagle waste changes it out, but it is a worthwhile service to the community.
I am looking into getting us on to a list for court required community service to get some help sorting recycle materials
The Cornucopia Art Crawl has been very good about keeping up with the beverage cans. They appreciate folks keeping other materials out of the barrels (cat food cans and aluminum foil etc.) also if you could empty your bags into the barrels that would be helpful.
Once the season slows down I am going to organize a deep cleaning of the facility and will be looking for a couple of volunteers to help with that project

Airport
Maintenance: The airport was mowed July 29th and is in great shape.
Usage: There were 14 planes there during the month of July. There were four planes so far within the first five days of August. That makes a total of 26 this year.
Projects: Working with Anna to update the airport tab on the town website. Built a small fire pit near the pilot shelter. Jeff Byerhof delivered donated firewood. Updated FAA website which pushes information out to other aviation websites such as AirNav, RAF, etc. Will be installing a donation box as well as instructions for online donation options by the end of August.
Other: We received a very nice write up in the Cirrus pilots association magazine (COPA).

Community Emergency Preparedness
Awaiting Board approval of the Emergency Action Plan submitted.

Learning Center/ Fitness Room
All activities are on hold at this time due to Covid 19
