Friday, November 3, 2023 – 9:30 am @ Cornucopia Community Center
Committee members present: Doug Becker, Gordon Anderson, Gina Emily, Richard Dunn
Absent: Greg Weiss
Others present: Judy Kerr, Judy Becker, Steve Rudd, Paul Ehlers
Chair Doug Becker called the meeting to order at 9:32 am.
Old Business:
- Previous minutes: motion was made by G. Anderson, seconded by R. Dunn, to approve the October minutes. Passed.
- Budget review: (see Item 9).
- Maintenance Update:
- Beach Bathroom Maintenance:
- Floor will be painted in Spring of 2024; paint has been purchased.
- Superior Avenue Beach benches: R. Dunn will pull them further back from the water & inspect for damages.
- Dunn reported that Siskiwit Bay Parkway beach benches and tables were placed in better locations for the winter by the Town.
- DoggiePot installed by the Community Center parking lot by D. Becker.
- Beach Bathroom Maintenance:
- Campground Update:
- Kerr reported October income of $100. Closed for the season.
- Siskiwit Lake Boat Launch – donation box closed and flags removed.
- Boats Don’t Float Preservation Zoning:
- Ehlers reported that Bayfield County Zoning representative reviewed the site of the “Liberty”. Set back from the water is okay but the boat partially sits on the Siskiwit Bay Parkway right-of-way. Possible variance will be investigated.
- Ehlers will investigate covering the older 3 boats with rubber roofing.
- Picnic Table Purchase – 2 replacement tables for the Swenson Pavilion will be delivered in November. R. Dunn, G. Anderson, P. Ehlers, D. Becker will unload upon delivery & stored until Spring of 2024.
- Outdoor Exercise County Grant:
- Emily will Chair the subcommittee. G. Anderson & P. Ehlers will seek assistance from various local trail clubs.
- Current members: G. Emily, Steve Rudd, Yvette Fleming, J. Becker.
- 2024 Town Budget Anticipated Approved Committee Projects:
- Swenson Pavilion: new roof, raised platform, gravel apron, decking.
- Siskiwit Bay Parkway Wellhouse: new roof.
- $1500 to replace beach bathroom steel doors.
- 2 additional picnic tables.
- PortaPotty rentals at campground and Super Avenue Beach.
- Becker will request a budget line item addition to monitor the beach bathroom maintenance costs.
New Business:
- Siskiwit Lake Boat Launch Ditch Maintenance: R. Dunn reported that they are mowed by the Town.
- Bench Solar Recharging Stations: not needed at this time.
- Other:
- Spring 2024 projects:
- Inspect both playground equipment areas for replacement chips/pea gravel.
- Community Center playground wooden boundary boards need replacing/repair.
- Spring 2024 projects:
- Replace basketball hoop netting.
- Request the construction of Leopold Benches from the South Shore High School students for placement around Town.
- Discussion of uses for the Town owned PortaPotties.
- Emily will research possible replacement of deteriorating signage by the Boats Don’t Float and Wellhouse.
- Kerr discussed lighting needs behind the Community Center; G. Anderson with Jesse Kaseno will research possibilities of motion sensor lights.
Next meeting: Friday, February 2, 2024 at 9:30 am at the Community Center.
