Town of Bell Parks and Lands Meeting Minutes
Committee members present: Doug Becker, Gina Emily, Richard Dunn, Greg Weiss, Gordon Anderson
Others present: Judy Kerr, Judy Becker, Steve Rudd, Connie Bell
Chair Doug Becker called the meeting to order at 9:34 am.
Old Business:
- Previous minutes approval: motion was made by G. Emily; seconded by R. Dunn. Passed.
- Budget review: no update.
- Spring Maintenance Update:
- Anderson is repairing Superior Ave. beach port-a-potty door & seat. Discussion about replacing it.
- Kerr reported that pea gravel was added to back parking area.
- Emily replaced the boat launch sign/flag, put up new donation box. $35 in donations collected.
- Dunn will paint lettering on the TOB Cemetery sign. Sign will not be replaced at this time.
- Weiss reported parking issues preventing access to beach pathways and designated kayak launch area. No Parking sign(s) will be installed.
- Ropes by dunes area need to be raised higher to discourage dune damage.
- Secretary Appointment: it will be added to the TOB Board agenda for discussion this month.
- Beach Bathroom Quotes – update:
- contractors not interested in providing quotes this year.
- Becker will make inquiries about funding from the National Scenic Byways Committee.
- Campground Update:
- A sign will be posted at the campground saying: “$100 event use fee is required for commercial kayak vendors” by G. Emily. Website was updated.
- Kerr reported income of $660 to date for 2023.
- DPW List: no update about projects.
- ADA Assessment: Supervisors received the Community Center report.
- Boats Don’t Float Preservation Zoning – Ehlers: no report
- Picnic Table Maintenance:
- Swenson Pavilion picnic tables will be painted on Thursday, July 13 at 9 am, weather permitting.
- Campground picnic table maintenance date to be determined.
- Commercial Kayak Vendors at Campground:
- Discussion with C. Bell from Wilderness Inquiry about vendor fee, TOB Siskiwit Lake boat launch donation amount. Campground fee is $100 per event; boat launch donation is free will.
New Business:
- Town Clerk Correspondence:
- Becker and R. Dunn will install a second handicap parking space sign.
- Rock Structure by Beach Bathrooms:
- Kerr reported damage. R. Dunn will check with Sanitary District Committee about repair/replacement.
- Basketball Container Request:
- Becker will investigate an appropriate container for basketballs by the court.
- Transient Vendor Ordinance:
- Kerr presented a new TOB application form for review. G. Weiss and C. Bell recommended Committee approval. Okayed.
- Anderson reported complaint of kayaks blocking beach access areas. G. Weiss will investigate.
- Other:
- Beach swing missing bolt was repaired by G. Anderson.
- Emily expressed installation limits when adults use Community Center swings, as it forces entire set to rock.
Motion was made to adjourn by G. Anderson, seconded by G. Emily. Passed at 10:28 am.
Next meeting: Friday, August 4, 2023 at 9:30 am at the Community Center.
