Friday, October 6, 2023 – 9:30 am @ Cornucopia Community Center

Committee members present: Doug Becker, Gordon Anderson

Absent: Gina Emily, Richard Dunn, Greg Weiss

Others present: Judy Kerr, Judy Becker, Steve Rudd, Paul Ehlers

Chair Doug Becker called the meeting to order at 9:38 am.

Old Business:

  1. Previous minutes: motion was made by G. Anderson, seconded by D. Becker to approve the September minutes. Passed.
  2. Budget review: no discussion.
  3. Maintenance Update:
    1. Superior Ave. Beach Port-a-Potty will possibly be replaced next spring.
    2. Beach Bathroom Maintenance:
      1. Men’s room hand dryer was repaired by D. Becker.
      2. Floor will be painted within the next few weeks, depending on weather, before its seasonal close.
    3. Campground Update:
      1. New DggiePot will be installed at the Community Center instead by D. Becker.
      2. Site 4 sign repaired.
      3. Kerr reported September income of $552.
      4. Becker will make a follow up contact to possible 2024 Hosts.
    4. Siskiwit Lake Boat Launch – $18 collected.
    5. DPW Projects Update – no report.
    6. Boats Don’t Float Preservation Zoning – P. Ehlers:
      1. $4000 is in the “Boats Fund”.
      2. Becker led a discussion about relocating the “Liberty” to the Swenson Pavilion. P. Ehlers will pursue the possibility and funding.
    7. Picnic Table Purchase – 2 replacement tables for the Swenson Pavilion have been purchased.
    8. Outdoor Exercise County Grant – a Chairperson is needed. G. Anderson will ask for volunteers at the next Town meeting. Projects for requesting the grant money were discussed.

New Business:

  1. 2024 Budget requests/ideas – on-going:
    1. 2 more new picnic tables.
    2. Replace steel beach bathroom doors.
    3. New picnic pavilion on higher ground
    4. Remodel the Swenson Pavilion to shelter the “Liberty”.
  2. Becker and P. Ehlers will move the Superior Avenue beach benches to higher ground.
  3. Discussion about cost savings to replace and rent the 2 campground and 1 Superior Avenue Port-a-Potties. D. Becker presented a quote from #2 Septic Service and will present to the Board at the next Town meeting.
  4. Beach Bathroom Jurisdiction: discussion about who is responsible for the cleaning, care and maintenance – Parks & Lands Committee or Harbor Commission? Committee will accept responsibility and ask for a line item in the budget to monitor costs.

Next meeting: Friday, November 3, 2023 at 9:30 am at the Community Center.
