Town of Bell Parks and Lands Meeting Minutes

Committee Members Present: Doug Becker, Greg Weiss, Gordon Anderson, Gina Emily

Others Present: Judy Kerr, Yvette Fleming

Committee Chair Doug Becker called the meeting to order at 9:33 am.

Old Business:

  1. Approve Minutes: Date of minutes corrected. Minutes were approved.
  2. Budget review – in process.
  3. Campground
    1. Use update
      1. $1310 collected this month.
      2. Regular trash pickup has resumed.
  • Judy K. is checking that campers are registered.
  1. Siskiwit Lake Boat Launch
    1. Donation box collections report – Gina collected $15 this month.
    2. Parking – no further problems.
  2. Maintenance
    1. Beach restrooms
      1. Plexiglass& new soap dispenser installation completed.
      2. Judy K. has been removing graffiti.
    2. Sidewalk Repair Update
      1. Doug inspected the well overflow drain; a mason will be contacted to repair sidewalk.
    3. Parking Lot Lighting
      1. Yvette and Committee discovered previously purchased lights in storage; electrician will be contacted.
    4. Supplies ordered for Parks/Lands facilities and Community Center are billed separately.
  3. Other
    1. Kiewit Memorial Tree Update
      1. Joan Kiewit will pay for the Japanese Lilac Tree.
      2. Gina is sourcing suppliers.
    2. Project Requests to Matt Hipsher this winter –

New Business:

  1. Memorial Bench from Chuck Perry platform – completed and appreciated by family and friends.
  2. Yvette requested a weed clean up along breakwater walk.
    1. September 23, 2022 at 9 am.
    2. Doug will take a request to the Harbor Commission concerning Halverson’s Fisheries keeping equipment clear of the access to the breakwater walkway.
  3. Improper kayak launching from Superior Avenue beach will be investigated by Greg.
  4. Several complaints were made to the Town about ADA non-compliant beach bathrooms. Doug will contact John Nedden-Durst for an assessment of all Town facilities.
  5. Picnic tables at Swenson Pavilion and Green Shed Pavilion need painting; scheduled for spring 2023.
  6. Greg will investigate sand movement at Superior Avenue beach.
