Town of Bell Planning Commission Meeting Minutes   Monday Feb. 14, 2022

Meeting called to order 5:00 p.m.

Commissioners present: Mark Ehlers, Dave Tillmans, Gordon Anderson, Jackie Eid

Community members present: Roger Lindgren, Phyllis Peri, Nancy Moye, Erika Lang

Horozaniecki Conditional Use Permit: After discussion it was decided that it needs to be stipulated that this would only be for family use unless additional permitting through Bayfield County Planning and Zoning is obtained.

Motion to approve based on prior stipulation by Mark Ehlers, second by Gordon Anderson. Unanimous

County purchase of 160 acres in the Lost Creek Watershed: Erika Lang attend by ZOOM. She gave us information on this pending purchase. Landmark Conservancy is assisting Bayfield County in purchasing 160 acres in the upper Lost Creek watershed. Landmark Conservancy is waiting for approval from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship grant and Bayfield county is waiting on a Wi. Coastal Management grant. Some of the pine on this acreage is over 100 years old. It is important for wildlife and also migratory birds. It is adjacent to other county property. This land would have to be managed according to the grant. Right now it is in MFL open. There is an aspen stand that may need to be managed. The grant may be out of the Stream Bank Protection Program which is quite stringent.

We (Town of Bell) would like to see Bayfield County’s Forest Management Plan for this.

Does it fit with our Comprehensive Plan and view of the community.

Access would be up to the county in the future.

Recommended that the county does not try to improve/develop.

Would like a resolution from the Town of Bell supporting this purchase. Resolution could state we support but these are our values.

This property needs to be closed on by October.

Erika will attend the March board meeting.

Motion by Mark Ehlers: Planning Commission agrees to further investigate Bayfield County”s purchase of this land. Recommendation will be made to Town of Bell Board. Second Gordon Anderson, unanimous

Meeting was adjourned at 5:36 p.m.
