Town of Bell Board Meeting Minutes – Tues., Jan. 10, 2023

TOWN OF BELL BOARD MEETING

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

following the Caucus

at the Community Center

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:14 p.m.  Board members present were Roger Lindgren,  Gordon Anderson, Paul Ehlers, Jackie Eid, MaryBeth Tillmans and Janice Olson. Jesse Kaseno was absent.  The meeting was available on Zoom.

-Board Meeting Minutes-

  1. Eid made a motion to approve the minutes and G. Anderson 2nd the motion.

Unanimous decision. Approved.

-Treasurer’s Report –P. Ehlers made a motion to approve the minutes and J. Eid 2nd the motion.

Unanimous decision. Approved.

 

Board Comments

  1. Lindgren – Noted an attempted break-in of a neighbor at 4:00 a.m..

-There will cake at the February Board meeting for them as last year’s

citizens of the year.  There was no cake last year due to Covid.

Correspondence– – Reviewed

Committee Reports-Reviewed

Sanitary District – Sewer user fees will be increased 5%. There will be an additional $10 road fee

for holding tanks. Delineation is being done for the new ponds.  They are

working on the location of them with the DNR. They have filed the intent to pay

with grants and loans.

Old Business

  1. Workforce Housing listening session will be held January 17th

The Town of Bell will hold a listening session on Jan. 17th at 7:00PM and Feb 14th at

6:00 PM the Community Center. It will be a time for everyone to give their input.

  1. Security Cameras are installed – update

The cameras have been installed.  They are now working on recording.

  1. EMS – Support by Emergency Preparedness Committee

The Emergency Planning Committee will help with the EMS support.

 

New Business

  1. Bayfield County’s Proposed STR Ordinance

The new proposed Bayfield Co. Short Term Rental Ordinance was reviewed.

Towns can have a permit with more requirements.  The Bayfield County

meeting on the Ordinance will be attended.

  1. Consider RAF proposal for Courtesy Car at Airport

The Town of Bell attorney will be consulted with on the legality of a

courtesy car at the airport.

 

  1. Vandeelen: Class A Special Use Permit for grading on the banks of Lake Superior

The request is due to an emergency measure to save their home on a bluff

located at the end of Lupine Lane. They are working with the ACOE and the

DNR.  J. Eid made a motion to recommend approval of the Class A Special

Use Permit for Shoreland Grading and G. Anderson 2nd the motion.  Unanimous

decision.  Approve.

  1. Appoint Harbor Commissioner – replace Supervisor Kaseno
  2. Lindgren nominated himself for the position until April and P. Ehlers 2nd it.

Unanimous decision.  Approved.

  1. Assign Supervisor the responsibility for Recycle Center
  2. Lindgren assigned P. Ehlers to the Recycle Center.
  3. Plans for potential Ice Caves opening

There is a meeting tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Town of Bell community center.

 

At 8:30 the Town of Bell board moved into a closed session

  1. Wage issues

 

At  9:00p.m., J. Eid made a motion to adjourn the meeting and G. Anderson 2nd the motion.  Approved.
